Don’t Check Out Yet! Why You Can’t Miss the Bali Safari Mara River Marine & Water Park

Why You Need to Hit the Bali  Marine Water Park on Your Checkout Day: A Complete Guide to Maximizing Your Stay at Mara River Safari Lodge

The highlight of the Marine Water Park has to be its exciting water slides.

If you are currently scrolling through Instagram planning your ultimate Bali family vacation, chances are you’ve stumbled upon the famous safari lodge where wild animals roam right outside your balcony. Yes, I am talking about the legendary Mara River Safari Lodge. While most tourists treat this place as a quick half-day stopover to look at lions and rhinos, they are seriously missing out on the absolute best part of the resort package: the Bali Marine Water Park.

On our recent family trip, we decided to book a night at the lodge, and it turned out to be the smartest itinerary choice we made. Specifically, we utilized the water park on our second day—right after checking out and right before catching our late-night international flight back home. If you are trying to figure out how to kill those awkward hours between hotel checkout and your airport departure without melting under the tropical heat, grab a cup of coffee and read on. This is how we successfully maximized every single dollar of our package.

The Perfect 2-Day Flow for Families

To give you some context on how seamlessly this works, here is exactly how we structured our 48 hours at the park. On day one, we checked into our safari lodge, fed carrots to the zebras from our private balcony, did the official daytime safari tram ride, and topped it off with the thrilling Night Safari experience.

Day two is where the real strategy kicks in. Instead of rushing away after breakfast, we packed our bags, cleared our room by 11:00 AM, handed our large suitcases over to the resort's bellboy service, and walked straight into the Marine Water Park with nothing but a light daypack. We spent the entire afternoon swimming, sliding, and eating poolside before utilizing the free on-site showers to freshen up for our flight to Ngurah Rai International Airport. It is a flawless transition that keeps the kids entertained and prevents the usual travel-day meltdowns.

Up close with the otters! Hand-feeding these lovely little guys is the absolute highlight of Marine Park.

Wild Chaos at the Otter Feeding Station

Since the property is officially named the "Safari & Marine Park," the water park area isn't just about swimming pools and slides. It actually features a beautifully integrated series of aquatic exhibits showcasing fascinating freshwater and marine life. It functions almost like a mini-aquarium built right into a splash park, which is brilliant for curious toddlers and older kids alike.

The absolute highlight of the marine exhibits for my kids was the scheduled Otter Feeding Time. If you are like me, you probably have this wholesome image of sea otters from viral TikTok videos where they hold hands and look adorable. Well, let me tell you, the reality at feeding time is pure, chaotic comedy.

The second the park keeper stepped into the enclosure carrying a bucket of fresh fish, these little guys completely lost their minds. They started emitting these incredibly loud, high-pitched screeches that echoed across the deck. It was a mad scramble—they were literally shoving their siblings out of the way, climbing over each other, and snatching food at lightning speed. It was a fascinating, slightly chaotic display of wild animal instincts that had my kids absolutely roaring with laughter. Make sure you grab a copy of the daily show schedule at the entrance so you don't miss this.

The Real Cost: Rentals, Amenities, and Extra Spending

Let’s talk about budget because nobody likes getting hit with surprise fees when they are trying to relax on vacation. One of the best things about staying overnight at the Mara River Safari Lodge is that full water park admission is typically bundled into your room rate. If you were to come here as a day-tripper, the gate tickets can get quite pricey, so the resort stay instantly pays for itself.

Once you are inside the water park gates, here is the breakdown of what you actually need to pay for:

Towel Rentals: Towels are available at the rental counter for roughly 30,000 to 40,000 IDR each (which is just a couple of US dollars). They do require a small cash or card deposit upfront, but you get that money back the moment you return the dry towel at the end of the day.

Sunbeds and Private Cabanas: If you just want a standard reclining sunbed near the main kids' splash area, those are completely free of charge and operate on a first-come, first-served basis. However, if you want to upgrade to a private, premium 'Cabana' with proper canvas shading and plush cushions, those run for about 150,000 IDR for the day.

Amusement Rides: Tucked away in a corner of the park is a small amusement ride section featuring classic carnival-style rides for toddlers. These are not included in the standard water park entry and require a small token fee per ride, but it’s a very low cost and serves as a great distraction if your kids need a break from being submerged in water.

Three Golden Rules for Post-Checkout Splash Days

Through trial and error, we discovered three major hacks that will make your checkout-day experience a million times smoother.

First, layer your swimwear underneath your regular clothes in the morning. Before you officially lock up your suitcases and hand them over to the concierge, make sure everyone in the family has their swimsuits on underneath their casual daywear. The changing rooms at the water park can get crowded, and trying to wrestle impatient, excited kids into tight lycra swimsuits inside a humid locker room is an Olympic sport you don't want to participate in. This way, you just peel off your outer layers and you are instantly pool-ready.

Second, do not pack your own towels; just pay for the rentals. I originally debated tossing a few microfiber travel towels into our backpacks, but renting them at the park was the best decision I ever made. Remember, you are heading straight to the airport after this. The last thing you want to deal with is rolling up heavy, soggy, chlorine-scented towels and stuffing them into your carry-on luggage right before a long flight. It creates mold, smells terrible, and adds unnecessary weight. Pay the small rental fee, use the towels, hand them back to the counter, and walk away clean.

Third, take full advantage of the free shower facilities. While you have to shell out a few dollars for towels, the actual locker rooms, changing zones, and showers are completely free to use for park visitors. The facility was surprisingly pristine, well-ventilated, and featured great water pressure. Being able to thoroughly wash off the pool chlorine, sunscreen buildup, and tropical sweat before boarding an airplane is an absolute game-changer. We changed into fresh, cozy clothes for our flight and arrived at the airport feeling incredibly refreshed.

A huge, family-friendly water park with plenty of space and shallow play areas for little ones.

Ripping Swimsuits on the Crazy Water Slides

Now, let's talk about the actual water park features. The main pool area centers around a massive, vibrant water fortress completely rigged with multiple water slides designed for various age groups. The engineering of these slides is fantastic because they are thrilling enough for older kids but safe enough that you don't have to worry about injuries.

My kids were completely obsessed. They must have climbed up the stairs and zipped down those slides at least a hundred times over the course of the afternoon. They were sliding with so much pure velocity and frequency that by the time we went to the showers, I noticed the fabric on the seat of my son’s brand-new swimsuit had completely pilled and developed a literal hole from all the friction against the fiberglass! It was proof of a day well spent, but it brings me to a crucial warning.

The Bali sun near the equator is absolutely brutal, and when you are constantly splashing around in reflective water, you burn twice as fast. Even though we were aggressively reapplying high-SPF sunscreen every hour, the exposed skin on the backs of our necks and ears still got pretty toasted. Learn from our mistake: leave the trendy bikinis and board shorts at home. Pack long-sleeve rash guards, swim leggings, and wide-brimmed sun hats with neck flaps for your kids. Protecting their skin will save your vacation.

A beautiful deep infinity pool with a jungle view for adults.

The Hidden Oasis: Jungle Infinity Pool and Sunbed Dining

If all that chaotic splashing and screaming children sound a bit overwhelming, don't panic. The layout of the Bali Marine Park is brilliant because they have tucked away a gorgeous, deep Infinity Pool designed specifically for adults who need an escape.

This pool is a total vibe. It looks directly out into a lush, dense, emerald-green Bali jungle valley. Because it is physically separated from the main kids' slide structure, the atmosphere here is incredibly tranquil, quiet, and peaceful. My husband and I took turns playing lifeguard for the kids so we could each sneak away to this infinity pool to do some actual laps and, let’s be honest, snap some aesthetic, Instagram-worthy travel photos. The contrast between the deep blue pool water and the wild jungle backdrop is absolutely stunning.

When you inevitably get hungry from all the swimming, you don't even have to dry off and walk to a restaurant. You can simply relax on your sunbed, look through the poolside menu, and place an order directly with the roaming waitstaff who will bring the food straight to your lounge chair.

We ordered classic beef burgers with fries, local Nasi Goreng (Indonesian fried rice), and gourmet ice cream bars for the kids. I was fully expecting resort prices to be an absolute rip-off, but the bill was surprisingly reasonable. The portion sizes were generous, the presentation was clean, and the food tasted incredible after a long day in the water. It was the perfect, hassle-free poolside lunch.

A fun-filled splash zone surrounded by water slides and amusement rides, offering endless entertainment for the kids.

The Verdict: The Ultimate Value-for-Money Bali Package

As we watched our kids reluctantly climb out of the pool at the end of the day, begging us to stay just "one more hour," we realized that this entire resort package is hands down one of the best value-for-money experiences you can get in Bali. Combining a unique wildlife safari stay with a high-quality water park experience completely eliminates the stress of planning separate activities.

It turned our final travel day—which is usually filled with boring airport waiting rooms and stressed-out parents—into one of the absolute highlights of our entire trip. If you are heading to Bali with family, do yourself a favor and lock this into your itinerary.
