AYANA Resort Bali Pool Guide: 14 Amazing Pools, River Pool Hacks & Family-Friendly Spots

To be completely transparent, the main reason I ever booked AYANA Bali in the first place was a single photo on Instagram of the River Pool. You’ve probably seen it before—a turquoise double-tiered pool carved right into lush tropical greenery. When I saw it online, I immediately gasped, "Okay, I HAVE to stay at this resort!"

When I finally arrived, it was even more breathtaking than the photos. But with a staggering 14 distinct swimming pools spread across 90 hectares, navigating this massive resort without a game plan can get overwhelming fast. We spent our days moving from pool to pool, and honestly, we still didn't manage to hit all 14 because there was just too much to explore!

If you're heading to AYANA with kids or looking to snag that viral Instagram shot, here is my complete guide to the best pools on the estate, the secret rules for the River Pool, and how to keep your family entertained all day.

Quick Summary: Navigating AYANA’s 14 Pools

The River Pool Secret: The famous viral photo spot operates under strict queue rules! Photo time starts early in the morning, and each guest gets strictly 1 minute for their private photo op before the pool opens to general swimmers.

Best for Kids: RIMBA Lower & Upper Pools (featuring water slides and shallow splash zones) and the sprawling AYANA Main Pool (perfect for floating on tubes).

Best for Couples / Views: Ocean Beach Pool (stunning cliffside infinity views near Rock Bar) and Luna Rooftop Pool at Segara.

Resort Amenity Standard: Towels and chilled water are complimentary at every pool station. Staff are stationed everywhere to help with sunbeds, pool menus, and safety.

The Viral "River Pool" Photo Hack: How to Get the Ultimate Shot

The River Pool is easily the most famous photo spot in all of Bali, but getting "The Shot" requires a bit of strategy!

[ PHOTO SETUP TIP ]

Photographer / Partner: Stands on the upper cliff walkway across from the pool, looking down.

Posing Guest: Steps onto the upper or lower pool tier.

Safety Note: Walk slowly! The pool edges are surprisingly slippery.

1. Wake Up Early (Before Breakfast!)

Exclusive photo time at the River Pool runs in the early morning before general swimming opens. People start lining up as early as 6:30 AM to take queue tickets!

Pro Tip: Head down to the River Pool right around 6:30 AM – 7:00 AM, snag your photo, and then treat yourself to a huge breakfast right after!

2. The 1-Minute Rule

To keep things fair for everyone in line, the pool staff strictly enforce a 1-minute time limit per person. Once your 60 seconds are up, the next person steps up. If you slip or mess up your pose, your turn is done, so move carefully and deliberately!

3. How to Frame the Shot

Positioning: One person poses on the edge of the lower or upper pool tier, while the photographer must stand on the upper cliff walkway across from the pool looking down.

Angle Tip: Have your photographer take a mix of wide shots (capturing the entire jungle background and two pool tiers) as well as vertical full-body shots.

Solo Travelers: Don't rely on a selfie stick—it won't capture the scale of the landscape. Friendly pool staff are usually more than happy to help snap a quick photo for you!

Family Paradise: Why Kids Will Never Get Bored Here

When I travel with my kids, the hotel pool is always my #1 priority. Kids go to resorts specifically to swim, but at most places, they can get bored after a couple of days at the same pool.

At AYANA, my kids were in absolute heaven! With 14 pools to hop between, their daily routine became a hilarious, endless loop: Eat Breakfast -> Swim -> Eat Lunch -> Swim -> Sandbox at Kubu Beach -> Swim again! They literally never had a single second to get bored.

Best Family Pools:

1. RIMBA Lower Pool & Water Slide: RIMBA is an absolute paradise for families. The lower pool features a fun water slide and shallow entry zones where little ones can splash safely while parents relax on loungers right beside them.

2. AYANA Main Pool: This pool is huge and very wide. It's ideal for kids to float around on inflatable tubes or swim back and forth without bumping into other guests.

Kubu Beach & Cliff Lift Adventure

Beyond the pools, take the open-air wooden tram down to Kubu Beach. To reach the actual sand, you ride an exciting cliffside elevator lift down the face of the mountain—it feels like a fun theme park ride! The private beach has white sand where kids can build sandcastles and splash in the waves.

Poolside Dining, Sunbed Rules & Amenities

Sunbed Reservations: Sunbeds are available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you want a front-row spot at the Ocean Beach Pool or RIMBA, aim to grab your towels by 9:30 AM.

Towels & Water: You don't need to haul heavy towels from your room! Every pool has a dedicated towel station where staff provide fresh towels and complimentary iced water.

Poolside Snacks: You can order food and drinks directly to your sunbed via QR code or staff service. I highly recommend ordering a chilled fresh coconut, local fruit platters, or classic poolside snacks like spring rolls and wood-fired pizza!

Final Thoughts: Is it Worth Staying Inside the Resort?

Honestly, AYANA is so massive and packed with activities that leaving the resort feels like a waste of time and money. Between pool-hopping, private beach visits, tram rides, and incredible dining options, this resort is a full destination in itself.

Whether you are on a romantic getaway or a full family holiday, AYANA gives you that magical "amusement park" excitement wrapped in 5-star Balinese luxury!
